This tip is a nice chord change that you can use over and over in many different situations and should definitely be added to your bag of tricks which you should start to build up over time in order to achieve your dreams of becoming an awesome guitar player. If the correct building blocks are in place then there is no reason why you should not become a great player.
The articles I will be submitting are gleaned from over two decades of teaching guitar and if implemented correctly will get players to a great standard in the shortest possible time and the following tip is a must have for any budding guitarist.
Give this a whirl and I am sure you will surprised at just how effective this simple little trick can be.
So here goes five fingers shoes , give it a try…
Trick #1
Playing an ‘A major’ chord in the open position using your 1st five fingers shoes ,2nd and 3rd finger play one bar all downstrokes and on the beat.
Next lift off your 3rd finger to reveal the open B string (this chord is called Asus2) and play one bar. Then using your 4th finger hold down the ‘B string’ at the 3rd fret (1stand 2nd finger remain unchanged at the second fret throughout this piece) and play one bar (this chord is called Asus4). Finally finish off with one bar of ‘Amajor’ to complete this four bar sequence.

While teaching a guitar lesson the other day I realized that there is an enormous hole in the way music is taught these days. The student was playing a guitar riff from Nirvana that he had learned from a friend. When he finished I asked him if he knew more of the song other than just the beginning. He said that it was all his Friend knew but that he could also play a bunch of riffs from other tunes. This, to me is a major problem. Music lessons will typically cost between $40 and $60 per our depending on the level of service provided by the school. As a parent myself I believe in accountability. If I am paying good money for music lessons I expect my child to learn how to play to the best of his/her ability. As a music teacher I know that there is much more value in learning entire songs from start to finish with all the parts cheap five fingers , including the rhythm and lead lines. Almost any kid can find a guitar tab on the Internet and figure out the first few chords. There is no point paying someone to do that for them.
